The Tata Tiago has been a part of the Indian market since its launch in 2016 and has proved to be one of the most reliable hatchbacks in the entry-level segment of the Indian market. The Tiago, which has a cabin that is both spacious and practical, with solid build quality and fuel-efficient engines, has been a popular choice for Indian families who demand an affordable hatchback with plenty of features. It has always been in competition with other brands including Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Suzuki Swift over the years.
In the wake of the refreshed Tata Tiago EV, Tata Motors has unveiled the newer iteration of its Tiago model, ahead of its launch on May 28. The new models will feature cosmetic improvements, new features and new technology to further appeal to the competitive hatchback market. The standard Tiago will appeal to budget-conscious consumers who prioritise practicality and efficiency, whereas the Tiago EV will appeal to urban consumers who are seeking an affordable electric mobility platform with low running costs and modern features.
Both models, with their impressive sales figures and loyal customer base, remain a key part of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle portfolio, particularly in the fast-expanding compact hatchback and budget-conscious EV market in India.
Tata Motors has announced the launch of the facelifted Tiago and EV Tiago in May 28, 2026. The new features are bold Altroz inspired, full LED headlamps, connected taillights, 10.25-inch infotainment system, 360-degree camera and 6 airbags.
Both 1.2L petrol and CNG engines are carried over without changes. The Tiago EV could also be offered with a 30kWh battery and 366km range. The price of these range from around ₹4.50 lakh.
It’s a bold new look for India’s most popular entry-level hatchback. Tata motors has officially unveiled the new Tiago and EV version of the Tiago ahead of their launch on 28th May, 2026.Tata motors has officially released the updated Tiago and Tiago EV ahead of its launch on 28th May, 2026. Price details will be released on the day of the launch, but already the reveal has created lots of hype and it should. It’s not a simple facelift. One of the biggest changes to the Tiago since it was first released.
Let’s take a closer look at all the new, unchanged and why this launch is important to Indian car buyers.
A Completely New Look — Inside and Out
The first thing that sticks out is the face. The new Tiago, instead, has a more angular and grown-up look, heavily inspired from Tata Altroz. The earlier model was simple and user friendly. This update gives the Tiago a much more assertive road attitude, in keeping with the other Tata models. Source zigwheels
The headlamps are now sleeker with LED lights and it features integrated DRLs, while the bumper is blacked out and has small fog lamps on the lower section. Sporty touches include a blacked-out roof, shark fin antenna and matching ORVMs.
The modifications are also evident on the rear of the car. The taillights have been revamped with a number of vertical LED strips, linked by a chunky bar, much like other newer Tata designs. New bumpers are also at the back. The rear treatment is the same for both the ICE and EV variants, lending a sense of uniformity and modernity to the car.
Both models are fitted with revamped alloy wheels as well as black wheel arches, also found on the current Tiago NRG, on the sides.
A Smarter Cabin With Better Tech
Enter, and it’s all kicked into gear. The Tata Tiago ICE and EV were completely revamped for the 2025 model year, with a new steering wheel with an illuminated logo, a 10.25-inch infotainment system and a revamped cabin.
This marks a great step up from the previous model, and the Tiago feels more on-par with higher-end models without hitting the high end of the price range. Certain features such as wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control and cruise control will also remain.
The most impressive thing about it is the 360° camera. The video also included the camera pods found on the front bumper and under the exterior rearview mirror that will be new to the Tiago and Tiago EV, respectively. The surround-view camera is a great feature for a hatchback in this segment, and certainly will make parking in the busy Indian cities much easier.
Safety takes a major boost
While safety is a growing priority for Indian consumers, Tata has heeded the call. The facelift may also be a huge improvement from a safety point of view, with the addition of 6 airbags, compared to the current version which has 2, and a 360-degree camera. This would make the Tiago’s safety features conform to other cars that have already adopted a consistent six airbag pattern, such as Maruti Suzuki.
Other safety features that might be added are electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and hill start assist. The car’s characteristics are some that were previously exclusive to higher priced vehicles and now being seen on entry-level hatchback is a clear indicator on the priorities of Tata.
Rely on Petrol/CNG Powertrain—It is Tried and Trusted
Tata has decided not to change a thing under the bonnet. It’s believed that the Tiago will share the same 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol unit that has been used in the new Corolla Altis, which is available with both a 5-speed manual and an AMT transmission. For those who want more economical running costs, this powertrain can be equipped with a factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG setup too.
The CNG version makes power of 75.5 PS and torque of 96.5 Nm while the updated Tiago CNG will have the same dual-cylinder configuration. The Tiago iCNG is one of the only few cars in the country which offers an AMT gearbox with a CNG powertrain. The CNG economy coupled with a smooth functioning automatic gearbox makes the Tiago very useful for the everyday city commuter.
The Tiago EV, what about it?
The petrol-powered Tiago will be available on May 28 and the EV will follow. It will be the second generation Tiago EV, and is likely to receive additional features, but the same powertrain choices. The powertrains are expected to go unchanged, and it will continue with the 19.2kWh and 24.0kWh battery packs as well as the respective motors.
But there are reports of even more of an upgrade. Tata Motors may provide a bigger 30kWh battery pack that would provide a claimed range of approximately 366 km on a single charge. The upgraded Tiago EV is also likely to be equipped with an even more powerful 6 in 1 i-drive motor, like the Punch EV.
The updated design, range and affordability of the Tiago EV may be enough to convince buyers who are undecided about buying petrol or electric vehicles.
What Will Tiago EV Price?
The price of the Tiago would start around Rs 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and the electric version would start from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). At either end of the range of the Tiago, these would be good value for money in light of all the upgrades available.
Why This Launch Matters
The Tiago has always been a car for everyday India; honest, reliable and affordable. That’s not the case with this facelift. Rather, it has been designed with the confidence, technology and safety attributes that today’s customers demand–even at a lower price.
Hyundai Motor India Limited has been surpassed by Tata Motors as its second biggest carmaker in India. The Tiago facelift will be available in both petrol and EV variants and is a testament to Tata’s intent to remain on top.
The big date for marking in the calendar is May 28, 2026, when the prices will be unveiled and India’s most awaited small car officially launches.
