The Application Process-

1) Register as a public user on the MoRTH or state RTO website.

2) Select the RTO, and check the fancy number availability under Fancy Number Allocation (specifically 0001).

3) Pay a non-refundable registration fee and a refundable deposit of the base bidding amount.

4) Participate in live auctions where bids increase in multiples of Rs. 10,000 (be prepared for spikes during competitive functions involving bids).

5) Upon winning the plate, make the remaining payment online within 5 days of winning to hold the plate.

6) Upon receiving payment, print your official allotment letter, which is only valid for 90 days.

7) Install the vehicle plate within the letter validity period to prevent having your plate cancelled.

Eligibility Criteria for Getting 0001 Number Plate

Vehicle Ownership

Applicants need to own a vehicle registered in India, or be ready to buy and then register a new vehicle. for the Vehicle ownership, you need, Proof of ownership as well as the Registration Certificate (RC) and chassis number, will be required at the time of application.

It can only be allocated to a real and formally registered vehicle registered in the area of the selected Regional Transport Office (RTO) with an active registration status at the time of application.

• Only vehicle owners whose name appears on the RC can bid at auction. 
• Bidders for 0001 plates who are planning to buy a new vehicle will need to complete their registration before bidding.

Financial Criteria

There are no other limits except the ability to pay and bid higher than the reserve price set by each state RTO. The whole process is available to all eligible vehicle owners, no matter their income or background. However, being able to register successfully depends only on being financially ready and making timely payments.

• Bidding starts at a base price (usually Rs. 5 lakh) and can go up, so the person applying must have enough money to cover both the bid and any extra taxes or fees.
• A deposit is paid during registration, and if the bid is successful, full payment must be made.

Compliance with the Law

Only plates issued by a recognised RTO with legal documentation are legal. The application and bidding taking place must be via government portals; in other words, the MoRTH page, the local transport department page. No brokers, dealers or agents are allowed.
