What Is the Mazda CX30?

Mazda CX-30 is a subcompact crossover SUV that has a common SKYACTIV platform with the fourth-generation Mazda3. It was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and became available to sell worldwide in the end of 2019, arriving in the US in January 2020. The car is the smallest SUV in Mazda with the CX-5 and CX-50 coming before it in the product range.

The North American units are built in Salamanca, Mexico and the other units across the world are Hiroshima, Japan and AutoAlliance Thailand. All-wheel drive was introduced as a standard feature in the entire lineup of the 2022 model year and onward in the US market – a differentiating fact in the subcompact SUV segment, where AWD is generally an optional add-on.

As of 2026, the CX-30 is in its first generation, with the last major change being the addition of a turbocharged option in 2021.

Who needs to purchase Mazda CX-30?

The CX-30 fits well with consumers who desire standard AWD at no higher fee, high-quality interior with non-luxury pricing, dynamic and sporty driving feel, and high independent safety ratings. The turbo version in particular, offers 250 hp and a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds at a very reasonable price compared to other similarly powered luxury competitors.

It is not as good a fit with buyers who are more concerned with cargo capacity (competitors such as the Kia Seltos have 3 times the capacity), rear seat room with tall occupants, hybrid energy (there is no hybrid option available), or a lower price point.
