Engine and Performance

The 2026 Mazda CX-90 features two different types of the e-SKYACTIV-G 3.3L turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, both of which utilise a mild hybrid system and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The base version of the engine has an output of 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque when using regular gasoline, giving it smooth acceleration while driving in everyday situations.

The Turbo S variant of the engine produces 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque with premium grade gasoline and can reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 6.3 seconds.

In addition to the two turbo engines, there is also a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) available that adds 323 horsepower and 27 miles of all-electric range.

Driving Dynamics and Mi-Drive modes

Mazda adjusts the CX-90 to give it better handling by using a platform that leans more on the rear wheels.

The Kinematic Posture Control helps reduce body movement when turning, making corners easier and more confident to navigate.

The standard i-Activ AWD system sends power to the wheels as needed, using real-time data to work well in wet roads, snowy conditions, or light off-road terrain.

The Mi-Drive settings offer different driving styles: Normal for a balanced and efficient drive, Sport for more responsive acceleration and steering, Off-Road for better grip on rough surfaces, and Towing for stability when pulling heavy loads up to 5,000 pounds.

It smoothly shifts between these modes to handle everything from busy highways to quiet suburbs and rugged trails, all while keeping the ride comfortable.

Fuel Economy and Efficiency

The EPA ratings for fuel efficiency on both 280-horsepower and 340-horsepower inline-six engines are 23 MPG City / 28 MPG Highway / 25 MPG Combined.

In actual highway driving at an average speed of 75 MPH, the mileage is approximately 29 MPG.

Additionally, using the gentle hybrid system and the 8-speed transmission with smooth shifts contributes to this higher mileage.

The yearly fuel expense ranges from $1,850-$2,450.

The Mazda CX-90 hybrid also offers approximately 27 miles of electric range for short distances, and, when combined with gasoline, suits longer journeys well, thereby reducing total gasoline consumption.
