Toyota Etios Discontinued in India
Toyota stopped selling the Etios models in India early in 2020. This happened because the company decided not to update the cars to meet the new BS6 emission standards.
The Etios family had three main models: the Etios sedan (Platinum Etios), the Etios Liva hatchback, and the Etios Cross crossover. Production at Toyota’s Bidadi factory stopped in March 2020, and no more units were sold after that.
Why was the Etios Car discontinued in India?
- Toyota didn’t think it was worth the cost to upgrade these models.
- The cars were old, and their design couldn’t handle the new safety rules for pedestrians.
- Sales were also going down, and Toyota replaced the Etios lineup with newer models like the Yaris sedan and Glanza hatchback.
- However, people who already owned Etios cars were told they would still get service and spare parts.

User Reviews and Ratings
Toyota Etios, which stopped being sold around 2020-2022, received good feedback from users, with an average rating of 4 out of 5 on sites like CarDekho and AutoX from many owners.
Users liked several things about the car:
They appreciated the spacious interior, especially the extra room in the back and the large trunk, which made it great for families and taxi drivers. The diesel versions offered decent fuel efficiency, reaching up to 20-26 kmpl. Both petrol and diesel engines were reliable, with few problems and low maintenance costs over time. The car was stable on highways and built well, which made it a favourite for people who plan to use it for a long time.
However, some users had complaints:
They thought the design was plain and not very appealing. The dashboard plastics were old-fashioned, and the basic versions lacked modern features like touchscreens or alloy wheels. The engines didn’t feel strong enough for passing other cars, and the ride was hard on rough roads, making it less comfortable than other cars. By the time it was discontinued, users felt it was missing out on newer features and stylish designs compared to other models.
