Ather History: India’s Homegrown Electric Vehicle
Ather Energy is an electric vehicle company founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain. In early 2014, Ather secured ₹4.5 million in funding from the Technology Development Board, which is part of the Department of Science and Technology, along with IIT Madras and Srini V. Srinivasan, who is the founder of Aerospike. Later in 2014, the founders of Flipkart, Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal, also invested $1 million as seed funding.
Thereafter, in 2015, Tiger Global invested $12 million to help with the further development and production of the company.
